Northeast Heat Wave Causing Stress on NYISO, Activating Demand-Response Program

Due to the current heat wave in the Northeast, stress on the NYISO system is running high.

The New York Power Authority (NYPA) and New York’s power grid operator, the New York Independent System Operator (NYISO), activated demand-response programs in New York City and parts of the state on Wednesday and Thursday to curb peak demand.

Under the programs, NYISO is contacting NY City landlords for a mandatory energy load curtailment.

It is critical for program participants to offer resources appropriately and double-check all communications during this time.
